Oakville, Ontario – Canadian Auto Worker (CAW) Local 707 members at Ford in Oakville, Ontario have approved work schedule changes at the company’s new assembly plant, which will be implemented in the event more production is needed to meet future demand. The plant will be producing the all-new Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover vehicles.
“The leadership at Local 707 have worked hard to secure an agreement that will ensure a stronger future at the new Ford flexible manufacturing plant and this vote shows the membership understands what’s at stake here,” said CAW president Buzz Hargrove. “This supports the CAW’s ongoing campaign to secure good auto assembly jobs in Canada.”
The union originally rejected a rotating three-crew system proposed by Ford, which would have required employees to work ten-hour days and Saturdays with no premium pay. The new agreement uses a three-shift operating pattern and weekend worker production system standard to the CAW.
