Canadian vehicle sales down 9.6% in November

Toronto, Ontario – November vehicle sales of 112,380 were down an average of 9.6% when compared with November, 2003, reports DesRosiers Automotive Consultants. Sales of cars dipped 5.7% while light trucks dropped 13.7%.

Domestic manufacturers all reported lower sales. General Motors fared the best of the Big Three with sales down by a relatively modest 2.6%. Ford sales were off 10.7% and DaimlerChrysler sales dropped 20.3%.

Even hot-selling brands like Toyota and Nissan reported only modest sales increases in November: Toyota was up 0.1% and Nissan up by 1.9%. Most other import makes experienced significant sales declines: Mitsubishi dipped 3.4%, Kia was off by 11.2%, Subaru was down 11.7%, Honda dropped 16.1%, Volkswagen fell 17.8%, Mazda dropped 18.5%, Suzuki plunged 34.2%, and Hyundai plummeted 34.9%.

Sales of luxury vehicles were mixed: Mini sales rose 58% for the month, Lexus was up 40.9%, Volvo rose 10.8%, and Acura was up 4.0% – but hot-selling Infiniti dipped 2.9%, BMW was down 4.2%, Mercedes dipped 5.2%, Audi slipped 10.7%, Jaguar dropped 25.4%, and Saab plunged 40.7%.
