Canadian supplier to equip natural-gas taxis in India
Mumbai, India – ECO Fuel Systems of Langley, British Columbia will be supplying compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kits for 250 taxicabs in Mumbai, India. The kits will be installed by ACE Gas Conversions Pvt. Ltd. of Mumbai, in collaboration with ECO Fuel Systems; the conversion is a project of ATF Advanced Technologies and Fuels Canada Inc. (ATFCAN), a not-for-profit corporation based in Ottawa to address the need for environmentally-friendly, sustainable methods of transportation and power generation.
The project will convert 200 new Maruti Esteem and 50 new Tata Indigo Marina vehicles to run on natural gas. Once converted, the vehicles will comprise a fleet of high-end taxis in the city. The first group of taxis will go into operation immediately, while the balance will be converted over the next six weeks.
The vehicles will be monitored over a twelve-month period to measure fuel consumption, mileage, and levels of greenhouse gas emissions. Third-party verification will provide comparative analyses between ECO Fuel Systems’ technology and that of other competitors’ products. The partners in the project are also examining the potential for localizing production of ECO’s kits in India, and the establishment of dealer sales networks.
