Canadian firm to supply 1,000 electric vehicle systems to Mexico
Toronto, Ontario – Hybrid and electric powertrain supplier Azure Dynamics Corporation, based in Toronto and Vancouver, has announced it has signed a supply agreement with Electro Autos Eficaces (EAE) of Mexico to supply 1,000 drive systems.
The initial order will be integrated into the Nissan Tsuru platform, a sedan commonly used in Mexico City’s municipal fleet. The Tsurus are being converted from gasoline to electric as part of Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard’s initiative to improve air quality and general health in the city. Ebrard will drive the first converted vehicle to the International Electric Vehicle Forum in Mexico City in May; the balance of the 1,000 vehicles will be converted over the following 18 months.
Azure’s scope of supply for the drive systems includes the motor, controller, gearbox and converters; the contract is valued at more than $7 million. The agreement also includes the potential for Azure to supply a broad range of systems and components for various other vehicle applications in Mexico.
