Toyota builds first North American hybrid

Georgetown, Kentucky – Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc. (TMMK) has announced the production launch of the Camry Hybrid, Toyota’s first hybrid vehicle produced in North America. The addition of hybrid production to the Georgetown, Kentucky plant represents a US$10 million investment in the facility, which will build approximately 48,000 Camry Hybrids per year.
TMMK was established in 1986 and is Toyota’s largest North American plant, with 7,000 employees; it currently builds the Camry, Avalon and Solara. Since its inception, it has built about 6.7 million vehicles.
