Thornhill, Ontario – Over 100 children in Ontario will be learning the skill of saving a life at the 39th annual school safety patroller leadership camp this week, held by the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA).

Over 20 police officers from various regions, along with the Oshawa Fire Department, St. John Ambulance and CAA’s Traffic Safety team will converge to teach the children important skills, including geographical navigation, first aid, fire training, evacuating a school bus, school zone crossing techniques and teamwork.

Last year, two children from London used these skills to save the life of a grade-one student, while this year, a Hamilton-area child was able to use her bus evacuation and first-aid skills to help a kindergarten student. She will be awarded the CAA School Safety Patroller of the Year on July 18.
