Global alignment of products and a surprise success in the Encore has GM shifting Buick focus
According to Edmunds, Buick’s cute ute could be seeing a power bump in the near future. Due to its great sales performance, the tri-shield brand wants to expand and give customers a little more choice.
Even with its rapid (and surprising) popularity, many potential customers of the Encore skip on the model due to lack of power. The mini utility is powered by the same 1.4L four-cylinder engine as the Chevrolet Trax.
The General’s available 2.0L and 2.4L four-cylinder engines will not fit in the Encore’s cramped engine compartment, so a 1.6L is expected to join in.
In other Buick news, the Verano will possibly get a diesel option in the not-too-distant future. With GM trying to align the tri-shield brand more and more with Opel, America’s new found interest in diesels, and the availability of the 2.0L turbo diesel from the Chevrolet Cruze, it’s an easy powertrain to equip on the compact luxury model.
