Bridgestone Firestone introduces new Firestone Wide Oval performance tires
Mississauga, Ontario – Bridgestone Firestone is introducing a new generation of the Firestone Wide Oval tire. Originally introduced in the late 1960s, the popular Firestone Wide Oval was the industry’s very first low profile, bias-ply performance tire. Famous for its OEM fitment on the Chevrolet Corvette of that era, the highly sought after Wide Oval tire featured white lettering on a distinctive sidewall pattern.
The new generation of Firestone Wide Oval tires carries on that tradition of race-inspired ultra-high performance and is engineered to give motorists world-class handling, performance and durability on any surface, says the company.
“The new Firestone Wide Oval features a directional tread pattern paired with a nostalgic look and name that reflects Firestone’s legacy of success at the Indy 500,” said John Gamauf, president of consumer replacement tire, BFNT. “We’re confident consumers will remember the original Wide Oval tire and that it will help reinforce the Firestone brand heritage of more than 100 years in the tire business.”
In other Bridgestone-Firestone news, the company announced that Bridgestone Dueler A/TRH-S light truck tires will be original equipment on the 2006 Hummer H3.
“The Bridgestone Dueler A/TRH-S is a result of more than two years of development collaboration between General Motors and Bridgestone Firestone,” said Michael Martini, president, original equipment consumer tire, BFNT.
The tire features a robust three-body ply construction for tremendous off-road performance as well as an over-the-sidewall tread design with integrated noise treatment technology for reduced driving noise. A rim protector reduces debris from getting between the wheel and the tire.
