Whitby, Ontario – BMW Group Canada’s regional distribution centre (RDC) in Whitby, Ontario has taken a bronze medal in logistics for the second consecutive year. The award is granted by BMW AG, with the winners chosen from the company’s 39 centres worldwide.
In 2007, the first year for the awards, 18 of the 39 centres won awards, and the Whitby RDC was the only one in the Americas to take a prize.
The award is based on performance in five categories: error rate, productivity, cost in per cent of turnover, stock accuracy, and delivery frequency.
The Whitby RDC showed a stock accuracy of 99.7 per cent, and a productivity improvement of 25.4 per cent over last year. The centre is run by Schenker, a third party, and is the primary parts supply warehouse for all BMW, Mini and BMW Motorrad retailers east of Manitoba, as well as the backup warehouse for retailers in the west.
