BMW’s ‘M’ division experiences rapid growth
Munich, Germany – BMW AG reports that 2001 was the most successful year so far for BMW’s ‘M’ (Motorsport) division. Annual sales were 23,000 M-badged cars, including the M5, M3, M roadster and M coupe.
The 400 horsepower high-performance M5 sedan had sales of more than 4,600. M3 sales exceeded 15,000 cars, including 11,000 M3 Coupés and 4,000 M3 Convertibles. The most important ‘M markets’ are the USA, Germany, Great Britain, Japan and Switzerland.
The M Sport packages for the BMW 3 and 5 Series model lines, which are based in design and function on the equivalent M cars, registered growth of approximately 80 percent, with a total of 55,000 sales.
Last but not least, more than 25,000 people took part in BMW Driver Training worldwide, including more than 15,000 in Germany.
