Whitby, Ontario – BMW has announced that two Cabriolet variants of the BMW 1 Series will debut in Canada in 2008, alongside the Coupe models already announced. The 128i and 135i Cabriolets will share drive-trains with the Coupe models, including six-cylinder inline engines mated to six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
The 128i will use a 3.0-litre engine with Valvetronic, generating 230 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque while providing high levels of fuel economy; the 135i will use BMW’s new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre, producing 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The 135i will also feature a standard M Aerodynamics package, sport suspension, 18-inch wheels with performance tires, high-performance brake system, specially-tuned dynamic stability control and special throttle control mapping for quick response.
The 1 Series Cabriolet also features a fabric roof that opens or closes in 22 seconds, and is available in black, beige or a new exclusive Silver-Grey Effect, which uses fabric interwoven with silver-coloured metallic fibres for an iridescent appearance.
The new models are expected to be released in the second half of 2008, with detailed specifications and pricing available closer to market launch.
