BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo concept
Munich, Germany – BMW has released photos of its Concept 5-Series Gran Turismo, which will receive its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The vehicle is described by BMW Chief Designer Chris Bangle as “a totally new type of car.” Officially described as a sedan, the vehicle features “semi-command” seating with room for four, and with more rear-seat headroom than a BMW X5 SUV even with its coupe-like styling.
The rear seat and cargo area are separated by a dividing wall, enabling the rear seats to be folded flat while retaining separation between passenger and cargo space. The wall can also be folded flat, producing SUV-like cargo capacity and accessibility.
The Concept 5-Series Gran Turismo features an innovative twin trunk lid, with a sedan-style trunk that can be accessed from outside the vehicle through a small trunk lid, as well as a rear door that can be opened like a large hatchback or SUV. The concept also features frameless side and rear windows, panorama roof, and a single plane along each side that eliminates the usual separate between the doors and B-pillars.
