BMW to use direct injection, regenerative braking and stop/start on all models
Munich, Germany – BMW has stated that it will implement spray-guided direct injection on all its gasoline models in the future, as well as regenerative braking and stop/start functionality. The Green Car Congress reports that these constitute the Efficient Dynamics Technology package that BMW introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
BMW projects that high-precision injection (HPI) will increase fuel efficiency by up to 10 per cent in the Euro test cycle and between five and 15 per cent in real-world driving. In BMW’s application, the engine is able to run on a lean mixture all the way from idle speed to high revs. The system will be first launched in European markets, but no timeline was given.
