Munich, Germany – BMW will become the first automaker to enable e-mail messages to be received inside the vehicle through a Bluetooth connection. The feature will be available in North America and Europe this fall.

The system will allow BlackBerry owners to access the phone’s e-mail function via the iDrive operating system. A new Bluetooth interface will integrate the BlackBerry, enabling e-mails to be received, displayed on the control display, and even read out by means of an optional voice output function.

The new feature is part of BMW’s ConnectedDrive office functions, which were introduced at the beginning of the year. The system allows calendar entries, text messages, tasks and memos to be transferred from compatible smartphones to the vehicle via a Bluetooth interface.
