BMW to expand its plant in Leipzig, Germany

Leipzig, Germany – BMW has announced an expansion project, scheduled for completion in 2009, at its plant in Leipzig. The company will add a press shop, including a component manufacturing wing for doors, hoods and trunk lids; it currently sources these items from external
suppliers and other BMW plants.

The new expansion is expected to create 150 extra jobs, at an investment of over 100 million Euros. Construction is expected to begin in late 2007.

The Leipzig plant produces about 700 vehicles per day, building the 3 Series sedan, and BMW 1 Series hatchback and coupe. The two 1 Series variants are produced exclusively at Leipzig for the global market.
