BMW to build new vehicle in South Carolina

Spartanburg, South Carolina – BMW will build a crossover vehicle in South Carolina, aimed at the U.S. as its primary market, which will replaced the X5.

The four-door crossover will have raised seating, sporty handling and a coupe-like exterior, and will be produced on the same assembly line as the X5 and Z4. It will likely seat five but won’t be as tall.

The American facility will ease the currency problems BMW faced due to the strong euro; it will be the sole source for the new model. The plant currently produces up to 150,000 vehicles per year.
