BMW recalls some vehicles with stalling problem

Woodcliff, New Jersey – BMW is recalling 88 vehicles in Canada and approximately 2000 in the United States equipped with V8 and V12 engines due to a faulty engine control unit that may cause their engines to stop without warning.

Affected vehicles include 5, 6 and 7 Series cars as well as X5s equipped with V8 or V12 engines produced between May 12th and July 6th 2004.

BMW is asking all owners of affected vehicles to stop driving them immediately. Should a vehicle stall, the driver will lose power steering assistance and power braking assistance as well. The vehicle may still be steered and braked but it will require much more effort.

In Canada, all 88 vehicle owners have already been contacted by their local dealership.
