BMW offers in-car Google searches in Germany
Munich, Germany – BMW has announced it is offering local Google searches through the vehicle’s systems throughout Germany, the only automaker to do so. When the operator uses Google to find such places as banks, restaurants, supermarkets or cinemas, the details are transferred to the navigation system and car phone; the system identifies the location and destination of the vehicle automatically, and displays the address, phone number and distance to the site.
Google and BMW have been offering a “Send to Car” function from the Google Maps Web site for some time; new to the partnership is the ability to access the Internet from the car. BMW says it is another building block in its “ConnectedDrive”, which combines all individual online, assistance and service systems in the car.
