Munich, Germany – BMW has produced its one millionth X5, just eleven years after the model was introduced.
The milestone vehicle, a sapphire black X5 xDrive35i, was produced in Spartanburg, South Carolina yesterday and will be delivered to a customer in China.
The X5 was premiered in 1999 and now includes four models. The development of the Spartanburg plant is also closely linked with the success story of the X5; the plant is now 15 years old and has become the most crucial centre of expertise for BMW X models within the BMW Group’s global production network. Built exclusively in Spartanburg, the X5 is now exported to more than 120 countries. The plant also builds the X6 and later this year will begin production of the latest generation of the X3.
