Dearborn, Michigan – The Ford Motor Company has announced the delivery of a Mercury Mariner Hybrid “Presidential Edition” to former U.S. President Bill Clinton, the first hybrid vehicle to be outfitted for presidential service. The Mariner, a model not sold in Canada, is a version of the Ford Escape Hybrid.
The vehicle will be formally accepted by Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative conference in New York City later this month. Earlier this month, Clinton announced the formation of the Clinton Climate Initiative, a project of his foundation dedicated to fight climate change in practical and measurable ways.
The Presidential Edition Mariner includes unique LED lighting, a 110-volt outlet and writing table. It is the first Mercury outfitted for presidential transportation, an honour that has gone to Lincoln since 1939.
