BCAA Dry Grad program encourages students to celebrate safely

Burnaby, British Columbia – The British Columbia Automobile Association (BCAA) is urging Grade 12 students to avoid drinking at graduation parties and then driving by sponsoring its 14th annual Dry Grad celebrations across the province.

Sixteen to 20-year-old males account for the second-highest number of alcohol-related collisions, behind 21- to 25-year-old males, according to 2003 B.C. Collision Statistics. In 2003, drivers aged 16 to 20 accounted for less than seven per cent of the total driving population, but were responsible for 17 per cent of all alcohol-related collisions.

Each year, BCAA donates a complimentary membership to 100 secondary schools throughout British Columbia holding Dry Grad celebrations attended by at least 50 per cent of the school’s graduating students. The membership can be used as a gift, door prize or auction item.
