Scottsdale, Arizona – One of the most sought after collectible cars, the famed Tucker ’48 automobile, will be among the nearly two-hundred classic, collector and special interest vehicles that will be offered for sale during the Barrett-Jackson Auction at The Petersen Automotive Museum, June 14th & 15th in Los Angeles, California.

Conceived by Preston Tucker, who intended to mass-produce a “car of the future” with advanced safety, styling and engineering features, only 51 Tuckers were ever built by the Tucker Corporation in 1948; 47 of them are known to survive today. The Tucker ’48 being offered, serial number 7, is a fully restored example.

Headlining the Hot Rod line up for this year’s auction will be the famed 1957 Chevrolet “Chezoom”. Probably the most famous ’57 Chevy ever, this Boyd Coddington creation built in the early 90’s is the most highly modified ’57 in the world. Recognized internationally for its timeless design and originality, the car is widely considered an important example of custom automotive design.

Joining the hot rod line-up will be two revolutionary V-16 engined examples, a ’23 Ford T-Bucket and a ’37 Ford Coupe. Both of these fully hand-built cars feature a custom-made Mathon V-16 engine.

For those seeking the ultimate attention-getting street machine, another car scheduled to cross the auction block is the famous Al Schieb 1957 Plymouth Fury. Called the “world’s wildest street-driven Mopar”, this nitrous oxide-powered Fury is fitted with the 460 cu.in. HEMI engine transplanted from the Vel’s Parnelli Jones Funny Car of the 1970’s.

Classic motorcycles will also be a part of the 2002 Petersen Auction. Recently consigned to the auction is the Rusty Kay Collection of fifteen exceptional examples, including a 1915 Excelsior Broad Track Racer, a 1917 Triumph H and a 1918 Douglas 350.

The Barrett-Jackson Auction is part of The California Classic Weekend which includes the Petersen Museum’s fund raising “Cars and Stars” Gala on Thursday evening, June 13th, this year previewing the “Million Dollar Cars” exhibit. The California Classic culminates with the “Concours on Rodeo” car show on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills on Sunday, June 16th.

The Barrett-Jackson Auction at The Petersen Automotive Museum will be held on Friday, June 14th from 5 PM to 9 PM, and Saturday, June 15th from 12 Noon to 9 PM. Preview will begin at 10 AM each day. There will be 200 select collector cars and motorcycles offered at the auction.

General admission charge for the Petersen Museum (www.petersen.org) and Auction is $10.00 each day. The Petersen Automotive Museum is located at 6060 Wilshire Blvd. (at Fairfax Ave), Los Angeles, California. Further information about Barrett-Jackson can be found on the company’s website
