Dawson Creek, British Columbia – Winter maintenance on Highways 2 and 97 in Dawson Creek, B.C. will increase for the coming winter seasons, following a review of traffic volumes from last winter.

Highway 2 from Dawson Creek to the B.C.-Alberta border, and Highway 97 from Dawson Creek to Fort St. John, and from Dawson Creek to Chetwynd have been reclassified from B to A maintenance levels, beginning this coming winter.

The changes are the result of an evaluation confirming an increase in traffic volumes, as well as input from the public using the three critical routes. Motorists will now benefit from more frequent plowing, salting and sanding, and increased patrols by the maintenance contractor.

The contractor will also use coarse road salts and sand in the South Peace for icy conditions, rather than liquid calcium chloride.
