Avis supports Make-A-Wish Foundation

Etobicoke, Ontario – Avis Rent A Car of Canada has recently announced it is supporting a national campaign to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Today through June 30th, 2003, the promotion asks customers to upgrade their rental by selecting an SUV from the Avis “Wish List.” For each paid rental upgrade, Avis will provide a $1.00 credit to benefit a special fund that offers free car rentals to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Customers will be prompted at point-of-sale to participate. The promotion will also be featured prominently on the Avis Canada Web site (www.avis.ca).

As the “Official Rental Car Company” for the international organization, based in Phoenix, Arizona, Avis provided more than $300,000 of free and discounted rentals over the past year to families needing transportation to help make their wishes come true. Avis employees at facilities throughout North America get involved personally by making sure that the children and their families are given extra attention and send-offs.

Avis’ support goes a long way toward defraying costs associated with wishes involving travel, which represent approximately 62 percent of the more than 10,000 wishes granted annually by the Foundation Internationally. “This Make-A-Wish partnership highlights Avis’ dedication to the communities we live and work in,” said William Boxberger, vice president and general manager of
Avis Canada. “We’re proud to do what we do best — take the stress out of travel — while we help drive the wishes of children and their families.”

“We are very pleased that Avis has chosen Make-A-Wish as their national ‘charity of choice,'” said Fran McDougall, national executive director of Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada. “The special discounts and incentives offered by Avis will greatly reduce the costs of granting wishes across Canada. This is very exciting and we look forward to Avis assisting in the granting of wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada has granted over 1400 wishes to Canadian children since 1983. Today they grant an average of 20 wishes per month. The average value of a wish in Canada is approximately $6,869.
