Las Vegas, Nevada – The Audi Mileage Marathon is now into the third stage of its attempt to drive a fleet of 23 diesel vehicles across the U.S. The cars will complete about three-quarters of the total distance when they reach Las Vegas, Nevada.
The vehicles, representing four different model lines, will travel more than 7,700 km from New York to Los Angeles, including major cities. The route has taken them as high as 3,300 metres in the Rocky Mountains, where they encountered snow and ice, to temperatures of more than 30C in the desert.
Among the results so far is a fuel economy rating of 5.3 L/100 km from the V6-powered Audi A4 3.0 TDI Quattro; 8.0 L/100 km and lower for the Q7 3.0 TDI; between 6.2 and 6.5 L/100 km for the new Q5 3.0 TDI; and below 5.0 L/100 km for the A3 2.0 TDI.
