CEO sees need for model to boost growth in US, China

Audi is preparing a new model to sit at the top of their SUV range and it could be ready as soon as 2020, Bloomberg reports.

The new model was mentioned by Audi CEO Rupert Stadler during an interview in New York, just a week after the Audi Q7 debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

If Audi does in fact bring out a new full-size SUV, it will go head to head with the Mercedes ML-Class and upcoming BMW X7. It’ll also have to do battle with entrenched full-size General Motors offerings — Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade.

Volkswagen Group has another forthcoming model in the Bentley Bentayga, which promises to be the “world’s most luxurious” SUV when it launches later this year.
