Ingolstadt, Germany – Audi has completed its Mileage Marathon, a 7,865-km test of 23 of its TDI vehicles from New York to Los Angeles.
The lowest consumption of all vehicles was the Audi A3 2.0 TDI, which achieved 4.7 L/100 km. Other “bests” for each model included 5.3 L/100 km for the A4 3.0 TDI; 6.1 L/100 km for the new Q5 3.0 TDI; and 7.1 L/100 km for the Q7 3.0 TDI.
From the start in New York, 184 drivers from 15 countries drove legs of the journey, covering the distance in 13 daily stages. The actual driving time for the vehicles averaged 93 hours. The route was a combination of highway driving and stop-and-go in major cities, as well as uphill and downhill grades including the 3,300-metre passes in the Rocky Mountains. Measurement of the fuel consumption figures was supervised by the U.S. International Motor Sports Association.
