Audi chief awarded Golden Steering Wheel
Ingolstadt, Germany – Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management at Audi AG, has received a prestigious Golden Steering Wheel award from the German magazine Bild am Sonntag, for his outstanding achievements in the motoring world.
Winterkorn received praise for his successful work at Audi. “He is certainly not lacking in self-confidence,” says Claus Strunz, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, “the self-confidence of a winner who works hard for success and sets a pace which only the best can keep up with.”
Winterkorn took over the Chairman position at Audi in 2002, which achieved sales records under his leadership, and which introduced the Q7 and the Audi R10 diesel-powered racecar. Winterkorn was recently named to succeed Bernd Pischetsrieder as CEO of Volkswagen, effective January 1, 2007.
Previous recipients of the award include Ferry Porsche and Michael Schumacher.
