Ingolstadt, Germany – Audi has announced a 6.0-litre V12 engine which it says is the world’s first twelve-cylinder diesel engine to be used in a series passenger car. The engine, which produces 500 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, will make its debut in the Audi Q7, although the company says it has no plans to export the engine to North America.
So equipped, the Q7 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, with an electronically-governed top speed of 250 km/h; it uses a new six-speed Tiptronic gearbox and Quattro permanent four-wheel drive.
