Ingolstadt, Germany – Audi has launched the next variant of its R8 model, the 5.2-litre R8 V10. The new model produces 525 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque and includes the model’s lightweight aluminum body and Quattro all-wheel drive.
The naturally-aspirated engine includes FSI gasoline direct injection and dry sump lubrication and is the cumulation of know-how from Audi’s string of Le Mans victories. The V10 in the production model will be almost identical in construction to the one in the racing version.
The R8 5.2 FSI will achieve acceleration of zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 sections, and with a sequentially-shifting R tronic transmission, will then reach 200 km/h in another 8.1 seconds, to a top speed of 316 km/h. The R tronic will be an available option to the model’s standard six-speed manual transmission, and includes steering wheel rocker switches and shifting times of less than one-tenth of a second.
The R8 5.2 FSI will be initially offered for sale in Germany in the second quarter of 2009, at a base price of €142,400.
