Ingolstadt, Germany – Audi has announced it is launching a new model series, the A5 coupe, in Canada and the U.S. The new line will be available as the V6-powered A5 or V8-powered S5; the first vehicles are due for delivery in June.
The four-seater coupes will be available in front-wheel drive or with Quattro all-wheel drive, and with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The all-new driveline has been developed specifically for the line-up.
Both the A5 and S5 use FSI direct fuel injection (a diesel variant available in Europe is not currently planned for sale in North America). The A5 uses a 3.2-litre V6 that makes 265 hp, but returns a fuel economy of 8.7 L/100 km. In the Fall of 2007 the company will also make the A5 available with a turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine. The S5’s V8 makes 354 hp and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
Standard or available features on the A5 will include an MMI operating screen, electromechanical parking brake with hill hold, adaptive bi-Xenon lighting, and a keyless entry system that can store mileage or warning messages for dealership service.
