Oshawa, Ontario – The Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) has reported that a strike by UAW members at four American Axle plants is affecting several General Motors plants in Canada and the U.S.

The strike, which began February 26, has resulted in the shutdown of GM’s truck plant in Oshawa, Ontario, along with GM plants in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.

The strike has also affected a small group of GM workers in St. Catharines, Ontario, and workers at parts suppliers Lear in Ajax, Ontario; A.G. Simpson in Oshawa; and Tenneco Inc. in Cambridge, Ontario.

UAW members at the American Axle plants in New York and Michigan went on strike to oppose wage and benefit cuts.
