Could Hyundai begin to push N-badged performance models?
Hyundai and Kia have poached Albert Biermann, chief engineer of BMW‘s M division, to work on future performance models and “improve ride and handling,” reports Reuters. He will become an executive vice president within the Korean company.
As Hyundai and Kia look to raise their image by expanding their offerings, Biermann could help the Korean automakers with Hyundai N-badged performance models, announced late last year. Officially, Biermann will be in charge of testing and developing performance models at the automakers’ research centre in Seoul beginning in April.
Hyundai/Kia said in a joint release Biermann’s appointment “will pave the way for Hyundai-Kia to go head to head with European premium carmakers.”
Currently, the only performance models marketed in Canada from either company are the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and Veloster Turbo.
