Along with the refreshed styling, the 2012 adds a new Sequential SportShift six-speed automatic transmission, revised interior appointments, new technology upgrades, a quieter cabin and a top-of-the-line Elite package.
Styling changes include a redesigned front bumper and grille, updated headlights and turn signals, shorter front overhang, new rear bumper with repositioned license plate opening, new taillights and thinner rear trunk edge trim. All TL models now also feature body-colour door handles and rear window trim.
The new transmission includes a sporty double-kickdown feature, letting the driver command a double downshift such as from fifth to third gear, while the drive-by-wire throttle system blips the throttle to help match gear speeds while downshifting. The new transmission also improves fuel economy.
The TL is available in front-wheel drive with 280 horsepower, or with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and 305 horsepower. The performance 6MT model with six-speed manual transmission also returns for 2012. The new Elite Package includes all-new ventilated seats, larger wheels and a blind spot information system.
Pricing is $39,490 for the TL; $42,990 for the Technology Package; $43,490 for the TL SH-AWD; $46,990 for the SH-AWD with Technology Package; and $48,990 for the Elite Package.
