Torrance, California – Acura has announced that it has simultaneously earned the top NHTSA and IIHS safety ratings for every vehicle in its lineup, the first time any automaker has done so in the history of automotive crash testing.

The announcement came following the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) award of the top five-star rating for the all-new 2009 Acura TL. In November 2008, the model also achieved the top rating of “good” with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and was named a Top Safety Pick.

With the NHTSA rating, Acura has now earned top honours for front, side and rear crash worthiness for all of the vehicles in its lineup.
