New blown V8, part of a promise from SRT boss Ralph Gilles, will put Camaro Z/28 on notice.
Chevrolet has gotten into the track day combatant ring with the Z/28 and Chrysler wants to take on the bowtie boys, toe-to-toe. Ralph Gilles, president and CEO of SRT, recently promised “an answer to the Z/28” and a high displacement, blown V8 might be the answer.
Codenamed “Hellcat”, the rumoured mill will make its way into the next generation Challenger, scheduled to go into production in 2014 for the 2015 model year. The car will also get ZF’s eight-speed automatic which has been making its way into all of the Pentastar products.
Hopefully a new suspension on the next generation car will be able to keep up with the track day Camaro in the corners and its 1.05 g cornering ability.
