500,000th BMW X5 comes off the production line

Spartanburg, South Carolina – The 500,000th BMW X5 was produced last week at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, only 5-1/2 years after the start of production in September 1999. The vehicle, a 3.0-litre X5 diesel in midnight blue, is going to BMW’s retail outlet in Hamburg, Germany.

The U.S. plant is the exclusive producer for the world market and exports the X5 to over 120 countries, although most remain in the U.S. The 100,000th X5 was built only two years after the start of production.
