Cruze will be first in segment to offer DCT with seven gears

The folks at GM Authority are reporting the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze, due next year, will arrive with a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, a first for the segment.

Most competitors use a combination of six-speed torque convertor and dual clutch boxes, as well as continuously variable transmissions.

The new transmission is reportedly the product of a joint venture between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation.
