Toronto, Ontario – Toyota Canada announced the new 2004 Toyota Prius gas-electric hybrid will go on sale in mid-November, 2003. The new-generation Prius will feature significantly more power and performance than the previous model, as well as best-in-class fuel economy and best-in-market emissions performance.

The new Prius has Toyota’s third-generation gas/electric hybrid powertrain technology. The new system produces more power from both the gasoline engine and the electric motor, giving the 2004 Prius acceleration comparable to a 4-cylinder mid-size car. The new Prius can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 10 seconds, compared to 12.7 seconds for the previous model, in addition to offering significantly improved passing performance.

At the same time, the new Prius offers even better fuel efficiency, with an estimated combined city/highway fuel consumption rating of 4.1 litres per 100 km compared to 4.6 litres per 100 km for the previous-generation Prius.
