Palo Alto, California – A California hot rod enthusiast is planning to drive his 1932 Ford roadster through all 49 continental United States in just nine days this fall, raising money for Ronald McDonald House.

Dave Schaub, 59, of Los Gatos will cover 9,800 miles (15,771 km) in 216 hours, starting September 8, 2009. He is encouraging followers and supporters to donate a penny or more per mile to the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.

“I’m doing this because people said it couldn’t be done and I’ve always wanted to find a cool way to help some kids in need,” he said. “It’s going to be hard. It will be the ultimate reliability run to test the mettle of me and my machine.” When he gets weary of driving, he’ll turn his thoughts to the children to keep him going, he said. Donations have already topped US$20,000.

The Chevrolet-powered Ford roadster has already been driven 60,000 miles (96,560 km) to various events. For more information, visit 49in9.
