18th annual Tour de Sol invites Canadian participants
Saratoga, New York – Owners of production or prototype “green” cars are invited to take part in the 18th annual Tour de Sol, a competition and car show held at the Saratoga Spa State Park in New York from May 10 to 14, 2006.
The Tour de Sol is a high-tech event that celebrates progress made toward more environmentally-friendly vehicles that use less fuel and emit fewer emissions, and offer new ways of getting around. Last year over 60 entrants and 40 exhibitors participated; this year, the event will showcase hybrid, natural gas, biofuel, electric and fuel cell vehicles from such manufacturers as Honda, Toyota, Lexus and Ford.
Events include a Monte Carlo-style rally, High-Mileage Challenge and the Tour de Sol Championship, which challenges students, independent teams and auto manufacturers to build one-of-a-kind or production vehicles. There is also an Around-Town Vehicle Competition, Junior Solar Sprint and H2Help competition where students build model solar and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
The event is organized by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA); for more information, rules and entry forms, visit www.nesea.org.
