Feature: Which cars are built in Canada?

The automotive sector is currently experiencing challenges that will see certain companies and brands either sold, or cease to exist. Times are tough; vehicle sales are significantly down in Canada, the U.S. and throughout the world. Although Canada doesn’t have what you could call a “Canadian car,” many models are built here, and all are specifically equipped for our market. For some consumers, the fact that a vehicle is built in Canada is a factor they consider when making a purchase decision. However, some recent changes (big changes) have taken place concerning Canadian production. Suzuki XL-7s were built here, but production has been suspended for a while. Honda’s Ridgeline was built in Alliston, Ontario, until early in 2009, but they’re now built in Alabama. And you may find some 2009 model GM trucks (Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra), but their home plant in Oshawa closed in May, 2009. Here, then is the list of vehicles “Made in Canada,” up to the 2009 model year.
