Used Vehicle Review: Nissan Axxess, 1990-1995
George, my friend the TV cameraman, is still driving his 1993 Nissan Axxess and he just can’t bear to part with it. His four-wheel-drive mini-minivan/cum small station wagon is amazingly versatile and so far it hasn’t caused him much pain in the wallet for repairs. Continue reading

Used Vehicle Review: Suzuki Sidekick, 1990-1998
Durability has proven to be the Suzuki Sidekick’s calling card. Not
particularly sexy, mind you, and perhaps even a bit crude. But if you’re
looking for an older and very basic sport-utility vehicle, one wearing an
affordable price, the Sidekick is definitely worth a look-see. Continue reading

Used Vehicle Review: Saturn SL sedans, 1991-1995
Remember the very early Saturn commercials way back in 1990, when the first cars from this upstart division of General Motors Corp. started to arrive as 1991 models? Boy were they effective. Continue reading

Used Vehicle Review: Nissan Maxima, 1995-1998
Maxima is a near-luxury sports sedan and the flagship Nissan since 1981. Back then it was actually a Datsun/Nissan, as the company was in embroiled in a name change. Anyway, pushing ahead to the fourth-generation Nissan Maxima, launched in 1995 and the subject of this review, is a car that’s high on my personal ‘love-to-own’ car shopping list. Continue reading

Used Vehicle Review: Hyundai Accent, 1995-1999
Now think about this: in the fall of 1994, when Hyundai launched the then-new Accent (which replaced the old Excel), the starting price for a four-door was $9,995. What a flash from the past! For that affordable amount, the Accent arrived with excellent fuel economy, a much, much improved suspension (for better ride comfort) and decent performance from a choice of two engines. Continue reading

Used Vehicle Review: GMC Yukon, 1992-1999
A decade ago there was no boom in sport-utility vehicles. None. So in 1992, when GMC introduced a new version of the large Yukon ute, only a relative handful of people paid much attention. They were hard core enthusiasts who cared about towing capacity and interior room in a giant four-by-four. In other words, the Yukon was and remains a vehicle for those who don’t want to follow the crowd, and often like to avoid it altogether. Continue reading

Used Vehicle Review: Ford Escort ZX2, 1998-99
What’s in a name? In the case of the short-lived Ford ZX2 (1998-99), the “Z” stands for Zetec engine, “X” represents this car’s supposed appeal to Generation X buyers and the “2″ is for two doors. Continue reading

Used Vehicle Review: Ford Escort, 1997-1999
The evolution of the Ford Escort from being an “okay” little economy car into a pretty good little economy car actually started in the early ’90s. That’s when it became a joint venture with Mazda and in ’97 a redesign brought some addition enhancements. Continue reading
